What is the use of a portal user and a machine user? Are they permitted to access portal and Studio?

Hi,
Could anyone tell me what is the use of “Portal user” and the “Machine user” that we create in Environment of flow studio. For the test purpose I created these two users and also tried by changing their access level. In short I can say for both the user type i.e., Portal User and Machine User with the possible combination of All three access level i.e., Administer all, Work and Administer workflow. I tried all possible six combinations but none of the combination is able to access Flow studio and Flow portal. My current Flow studio version is 6.14.8.27. Is there any point which I m missing because of which the user is not able to access or these users are designed for some other purposes. If anyone have idea about this then please help.

Hey,

Machine users are used to execute Machine Flows. You can find the workflow type when you create a new flow. Machine Flows are externally triggered or scheduled and have no user interface available.
Usually you have one machine user per environment. When you execute a scheduled job or a machine flow called e.g. via a weblink, it’s not executed by any end user, but by the machine user instead.

I would have assumed the Portal user is restricted to Portal use. Not sure why you can’t login to Portal with it. Maybe someone else can chip in on this.

Did you get the portal user to work? Should be able to log on to the portal with a portal normal user. Could it be that you have to have some portal users in your license perhaps otherwise? Honestly I have never tried to create a portal user without having portal licenses so not sure if it complains during the user creation phase or not.

Hi,
Actually I don’t have idea about the portal user license. Is there any separate licensing or an additional feature/service required for having a portal user? I simply tried to find the access level and “type of user” impact on studio and portal and I confronted this that the type “portal user” is not able to log in to any of the platform. But even I have never used it anywhere else. Most of my work is done with workflow user and full user. And if it about license then I can say we have a Demo type license in which the feature Portal is available, and the user type portal user is also licensed. Please let me know if I m missing any info.

The demo license should include portal users. But you can check under the Environment tab (in the studio) and then under License.

However a Full User should also be able to log on to the portal so I think it sounds like something else if you are also not allowed in to the portal with such a user.

Hi Ola,
yes I have seen that, and portal user is available. Thanks for the info.
but the problem as you can see in image.

So, the user type I have used is “portal user”. The link that I am using is
https://inzuscene-client.test.novacuracloud.net/#/login
Please correct me where I am wrong. Is “portal” refer to something else not this, which I am checking? or I am doing something wrong in creating user or in accessing the link ?

Hey Kshitij,

the link is for the Weblient, not the portal. Novacura also offers a Portal, which is a bit different from the webclient and offers different Portlets to configure. Depending on the setup, the license and the installation you might not have Portal installed. if you have it you need to check with whoever setup the environment on what the address for the portal is. It should be something like: https://inzuscene-portal.test.novacuracloud.net or https://inzuscene-portal2.client.test.novacuracloud.net
